Market Structure

Singapore's residential fiber broadband market operates over the shared Nationwide Broadband Network (NBN), maintained by NetLink Trust as the wholesale infrastructure provider. Retail ISPs lease access and compete on pricing, service quality, and hardware bundles. The seven primary retail providers are:

  • Singtel — the incumbent telecommunications operator, largest market share
  • StarHub — second-largest ISP, frequent bundle promotions
  • M1 — part of Keppel Group, competitive mid-range plans
  • MyRepublic — Singapore-based challenger ISP, aggressive promotional pricing
  • WhizComms — budget-oriented provider with no-frills options
  • ViewQwest — niche ISP with focus on low-latency gaming routes
  • Eight Telecom — newest entrant, offering 10 Gbps residential plans

Speed Tier Reference

Speed Tier Typical Use Case Monthly Range (S$) Notes
500 Mbps 1–2 person households, basic streaming and browsing $25 – $38 Sufficient for standard 4K streaming on 1–2 devices
1 Gbps Standard families, multiple simultaneous devices $30 – $50 Most common tier; handles 4–6 concurrent streams
2 Gbps Power users, home offices, cloud backup $35 – $55 Requires WiFi 6E or WiFi 7 router to utilise fully
3–5 Gbps Content creators, large households $26 – $45 BYO mesh system recommended; ISP routers may bottleneck
10 Gbps Early adopters, professional workloads $28 – $60 Requires XGS-PON ONT and 10G-capable networking equipment

Provider-Specific Plan Details

Singtel

Singtel offers fiber broadband from 500 Mbps to 10 Gbps. The 1 Gbps plan is priced at approximately S$46.21 per month on a 24-month contract, including a WiFi 6 router. Singtel recently introduced a WiFi 7 mesh system (model HB611) for higher-tier plans. The 2 Gbps tier is available at roughly S$56/month with bundled mesh equipment.

Singtel maintains the most extensive physical support infrastructure, with service centres located in all major heartland areas. Average installation lead time is 3–5 working days.

StarHub

StarHub's fiber portfolio ranges from 1 Gbps at approximately S$40.69/month to 2 Gbps at S$48.79/month on 24-month contracts. StarHub frequently bundles broadband with cable TV and mobile plans. Standalone broadband-only contracts offer marginally lower rates. StarHub operates its own mesh WiFi solution for premium plans.

M1

M1 positions itself in the mid-range segment. The 500 Mbps plan starts at S$30.45/month (no router included). The 3 Gbps plan is offered at S$32.90/month and includes a WiFi 7 router with tri-band support. M1 frequently runs promotional pricing for 12-month recontract cycles.

MyRepublic

MyRepublic runs promotional introductory rates, often as low as S$16.99/month for the first 6 months on a 3 Gbps plan, reverting to S$44.99/month. The company also offers a gaming-focused product line (MyRepublic GAMER) with optimised routing to regional game servers in Southeast Asia.

WhizComms

WhizComms focuses on value: the 2.5 Gbps plan at S$21.80/month and the 3 Gbps plan at S$26/month represent some of the lowest per-Gbps pricing in the market. Hardware is typically BYO (bring-your-own), with mesh-ready configurations available at an additional cost.

ViewQwest

ViewQwest specialises in low-latency routing through its proprietary SecureNet and Freedom DNS services. Plans range from 1 Gbps at S$42/month to 2 Gbps at S$59/month. This ISP is frequently cited in gaming communities for its reduced ping times to servers in Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.

Eight Telecom

Eight Telecom launched Singapore's first consumer-grade 10 Gbps fiber plan at S$28.80/month (BYO modem), disrupting the pricing expectation for ultra-high-speed tiers. A 60-day real-world usage report documented consistent 8–9.5 Gbps throughput over wired connections, with WiFi 7 mesh achieving 2–3 Gbps wirelessly.

Contract and Hardware Considerations

Most ISP contracts in Singapore run for 24 months. Early termination fees typically range from S$200 to S$400 depending on the remaining contract duration. Key hardware factors to evaluate:

  • Whether the bundled router supports WiFi 6E or WiFi 7
  • Whether the ONT is ISP-locked or can be used with third-party routers in bridge mode
  • Whether mesh WiFi nodes are included or charged as a separate monthly rental
  • Availability of 2.5G or 10G WAN ports on the provided router
